It’s difficult to imagine how Apple could have designed the HomePod without also improving accessibility, yet it proves far more suitable for people with disabilities than devices like Echo Dot or Google Home Mini when all assistive technologies are taken into account.

In 2017, Apple unveiled the original HomePod, their first foray into high-end audio and competition with Amazon Echo and Google Home. Unfortunately, due to its limited capabilities and hefty price point, it never achieved widespread success.

Last fall, Apple unlocked the HomePod Mini to a much wider audience than anticipated. While this smaller model has become popular among Apple enthusiasts and been met with critical acclaim, its impact on overall HomePod sales numbers has been somewhat muted.

Apple has addressed several common complaints about the original HomePod with the HomePod Mini. Aside from improved voice recognition, this model offers a lower price point and seamless connection to an iPhone, as well as an attractive design that sets it apart. Furthermore, its acoustic performance is far superior, available in two colors including midnight – something Apple has recently started favoring over standard black options on some products.
